Re: "Alpha 21264 system is already released. Compaq is selling such system. "

More hype Maxwell? Looks to me like Compaq is only taking orders for future upgrades. The motherboard by itself goes for $65,000. A 4-way Xeon SMP system would offer higher performance at a tiny fraction of the cost and furthermore, Xeons are available now.

"Alpha 21264 performance will be available for AlphaServer 8X00 systems through a simple board upgrade, which is ready to run real applications right out the box. Customers can take advantage of this performance improvement without any porting or rewriting of code. Those who purchase an AlphaServer 8X00 5/625 system by September 25, 1998 also can order a 21264 CPU upgrade at 30 percent off the list price (U.S. $65,000) of the upgrade board. "
