I think we have closed the discussion chapter on our discussion on prsident's and Americans dilemma ,, On CMGI .. from 09/14 ,, Individual Investor .. Earnings Watch - Week of 9/14 Three for five last week, including a great call on Quiksilver. The clothing company crushed estimates and the stock popped up $1.50 on the news. I missed big on Oracle. The enigmatic company hit the most aggressive estimates of $0.20 per share on strong sales growth. Maybe Mr. Ellison is finally righting the ship? He still has his hands full with Microsoft so Oracle isn't out of the woods yet. This week I'm looking for Rowe Furniture and Chattem to beat estimates. These two stocks should burst a bit if the overall markets cooperate and don't drop like a stone as they've done in the past two weeks. Plus, two Magic 25 companies report. I think Procom will miss estimates and CMGI will post a lower loss than expected. Look for these earnings releases: TKR Company Reporting Date Expected EPS Year Ago EPS CHHT Chattem 9/15 $0.44 $0.67 BBY Best Buy 9/15 $0.40 $0.15 PRCM Procom 9/16 $0.12 $0.20 SLR Solectron 9/17 $0.45 $0.40 CMGI CMG Info. Services 9/17 -$0.58 -$0.52 PAYX Paychex 9/18 $0.18 $0.14 ROW Rowe Furniture 9/18 $0.15 $0.14 Here's what I see happening: Thumbs UP CHTT - This company has beat estimates for two straight quarters; look for the health and beauty care product maker to do it again by a couple of cents. CHTT is on a roll. SLR - Look for a penny above estimates. Some analysts quietly bumped their estimates up by a penny in last month indicating SLR may surprise the Street. CMGI - Not a big deal since a loss is a loss, but I felt compelled to comment since this is a Magic 25 stock. The company will post a lower loss than expected, but it doesn't trade on earnings -- we love the stock long term and recommend buying under $59. PAYX - CEO is running for governor of New York. For the company's sake I hope he loses because he has done a great job. Look for PAYX to top estimates -- it's done it consistently over last two years. ROW - Do-it-yourself home repair retailers are booming. Home Depot crushed 2Q estimates. Look for ROW to do the same, but take into consideration the cloudy economic outlook which puts 3Q and 4Q numbers in doubt. Thumbs DOWN BBY - Unlike homebuilding retailers, electronic retailers aren't doing so well. BBY beat estimates in its last two quarters, but I think trend will reverse in this one. Next two quarters look bleak as well. PRCM - Boy, we got burned with this one. Last year it beat estimates every quarter so we picked it as Magic 25, but this year it has been all negative surprises. This quarter will be no different. What are your predictions? Let me know in the CHTT, BBY, PRCM, SLR, CMGI, PAYX, ROW forums. --Tom Byrne
