Yup, having an exclusive section at Babbages is going to suck! Yup, the only thing it'll do is increase sales of console games! (?) It clearly will not create any brand awareness. It is certain to confuse the borderline consumer who was not sure which add in board to buy. Having the boards in the store is really nothing but a waste of shelf space. But the stores are generally so big, that they have shelf-space-a-plenty. So the buyers are happy to plop video cards on all of the available space, even though "nobody buys video cards at Babbages."

This may not sell a lot of boards. Or it may. Anyone who says Babbages does not sell boards based on looking/talking to a few local stores is crazy. It is way to early to judge how successful it will be, but there is one thing that is certain: this is good news. I wonder if TNT had its own API, and if there were a lot of games exclusive to TNT if we would all be so comfortable with a TNT section at Babbages. Think about it.

I wonder how Pierre-X would respond should he see someone state that, "Nobody buys video cards at Babbages. The stores don't target that market whatsoever. The overwhelming majority of their sales are games, both for PC and console. " Would he ask for some references? Statistical evidence? Perhaps a simple, "How do you know this?"

Perhaps Babbages didn't sell many cards because, as you state, they haven't targeted the market. Seems like now they are trying to target the market. And with several hundred stores the numbers could be quite substantial. I am not banking on anything here, but it certainly strikes me as very good news.
