Derrick,
Ach, reality, who needs it? We've got the the US Congress in this country, not to mention Jerry Springer and gang.

Derrick,

I will not quarrel with Mr. Dohmen's skill as a market analyst, but he is speaking here of political analysis. While I am no pie-in-the-sky optimist regarding China, I do expect the Chinese to act in accordance with self-interest, and I do not forsee total collapse in HK.

Japan's mess is not a consequence of falling property prices, but of wildly excessive lending based on wildly overvalued collateral. The Hong Kong banking system is better regulated and more conservative, and I'm not convinced that the analogy is accurate. It may be a question of half-full vs. half-empty - have HK real estate prices crashed, or have they returned to a sane level, removing in the process a major disincentive to doing business?
