<A> WSJ: Novell Network Operating System Netware 5 To Ship Today

Novell Inc. today will begin shipping a long-awaited rewrite of its
flagship operating system for computer networks. Netware 5 is an important shift in Novell's product line to exploit technologies used on the Internet. It also advances the Provo, Utah, company's capability in an area known as directories, which help manage users on a network and control what computing resources they may use. Novell is trying to exploit rival Microsoft Corp.'s delays in shipping a new version of the Windows NT operating system that adds improved directory technology. Novell is delivering the product about a week ahead of schedule. Netware 5 will be discussed at a meeting in San
Francisco that will include a talk by Eckhard Pfeiffer, chief executive of Compaq Computer Corp.
