Lucent sounds as though they could do a lot of shopping from October onwards. I'd have thought buying Qualcomm wouldn't be all bad for them. Qualcomm has got a lot of cdma brains. Patents, handsets, Globalstar interests, stuff like that. Synergistic. Chaz, ***On Politics*** What if Congress impeaches, Senate ratifies [or whatever they do] and Clinton declares their judgement unconstitutional, calls in the armed forces as Commander in Chief to drag out all those voting against him in Congress and the Senate and jails them for a month for treason under a State of Emergency? Since the Senate vote would be secret, I suppose he'd have to dissolve the Senate and call Senatorial elections. That would get the cellphones ringing and the Q-Phone sales booming. He is the Commander in Chief presumably because the constitution writers foresaw just such an event. Now that would be interesting and give the markets pause. You said re Green$pan: "...be a grudging rate cutter moving down in minuscule increments very very very slowly" This sounds like The Rack, or Chinese Water Torture. I think simply jail Green$pan too - cut out the middle men, to hell with the constitution and impeachment. Congress or Clinton could simply declare him impeachable since the founders are not available to say that's not what they meant in the constitution. Let's get printing and in quantity. Get those interest rates down a lot and fast. Krugman and I have spake. Mqurice PS: Like JGoren and Dougjn, I should declare my expertise. I have stood on the steps of The Capitol. Hung around the Lincoln monument, looked at the White House. Even checked out the Washington Monument. Had a peek in Arlington cemetery at Kennedy's grave. Stuff like that. Even spotted the Pentagon.
