It would be nice to find that the article is actually a #4 in 24601's classification scheme, but my quick scan makes me think its is more of a "#2" conceptual paper to bring the concept to Atlantic's readership (often a far different group than SI) and is "not unlike" and "not inconsistent" with WAVE capabilities.

I am at work and cannot get the time to read every word now, but will when I get home tonight.

My understanding agrees with John's - if you can see it on your screen, you can (maybe with some work) capture it in a re-readable and/or editable format, if you don't want to be a "good citizen".

The same problem is the weak point of a number of the TV/Movie copyright chips that have been offered in the past as protection systems - if the desire is there and the signal is ultimately converted to a normal signal displayable on the screen, the point of attack is within the display unit beyond the point at which the coded signal is turned back into a normal signal.

IMHO it is for these reasons that the WAVE system is not described as a security system, but is described as a content metering and management system that also has significant security aspects.

Best to all.

Steve

I may be wrong, but my impression of the whole thrust of Alladin's software, some of which is now associated with the Wavemeter, is that it exists to prevent intellecual property from being copied. Based upon that, I would guess that the Wave chip has that capability.
