BMC Software Launches LSI Logic to Enhance Peak Productivity and Continuous Operation of SAP R/3 Availability and Performance 01:23 p.m Sep 14, 1998 Eastern Two-Day PATROL Implementation Helps Customer Manage SAP R/3 Deployment and Production Across Worldwide Organization LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1998-- BMC Software Inc. (NASDAQ:BMCS), a leading developer of Application Service Assurance software solutions that improve the availability, performance and recoverability of business-critical applications, today announced that LSI Logic has selected BMC Software's PATROL(R) solutions to help manage SAP(TM) R/3(TM) from deployment to production. LSI Logic, the world's leading developer of system-on-a-chip technology, chose PATROL for its easy implementation and effective ability to help plan R/3 deployments and ensure the availability and performance of R/3 across LSI Logic's worldwide organization.
To achieve an aggressive R/3 deployment schedule and a rapid return on investment, LSI Logic developed a best-of-breed framework to manage its R/3 enterprise, known as Global Enterprise Management Services (GEMS). LSI Logic relies on PATROL as its best-of-breed R/3 application management solution across the enterprise.
"After assessing some of the top system, database and application management vendors, BMC Software's products proved to solve our business requirements," said David Bristow, manager of global enterprise management services with LSI Logic. "PATROL's intuitiveness and flexibility allowed us to maximize staff productivity and build an R/3 enterprise management solution that was easy to deploy and expand for future growth. Consequently, we have successfully managed and provided continuous availability and performance of R/3 to the 4,000 worldwide users we added recently."
PATROL: Helping LSI Logic Attain Successful Production of R/3
LSI Logic uses BMC Software's PATROL Knowledge Modules for R/3, Unix, and Oracle to centrally and automatically monitor and manage the overall health of the R/3 system from deployment to production. LSI Logic easily implemented PATROL in only two days, aided by a few weeks of baseline planning using BMC Software's best-practices. During development and deployment planning of R/3, PATROL enabled the development team to plan additional system expansions and better understand what the demands on the systems and processes would be upon release to production. LSI Logic's development team conducted some proof-of-concept work with PATROL to ensure integration into LSI Logic's best-of-breed framework of solutions (GEMS). PATROL's flexible, autonomous architecture allowed LSI Logic's team to customize BMC Software's enterprise
application management solutions for R/3 into its GEMS framework.
After only five months, LSI Logic successfully moved R/3 into production. IT management and staff relied on PATROL to centrally monitor and manage the availability and performance of R/3 as the system experienced heavy business usage. Through PATROL's early autonotification and correction system, IT staff isolated application availability issues and corrected faults before users experienced any availability or performance problems. PATROL allows central management and monitoring of all the critical enterprise components that applications like R/3 rely on, including data, databases, operating systems, middleware, networks and servers. With PATROL implemented and application management under control, LSI Logic's IT management and staff can focus resources on their next major IT initiatives and system enhancements.
"Customers are anxious to quickly implement and experience the benefits of their R/3 systems and need comprehensive management solutions that can effectively run and grow with the business," said Leland Putterman, vice president of worldwide marketing with BMC Software. "We're proud to have supported LSI Logic's R/3 business objectives and management goals. Through our Application Service Assurance solutions, BMC Software delivers solutions that meet the overall objectives of our joint customers -- optimizing the service of mission-critical applications provided to end-users and achieving a quick return on their investments."
