Whither Tripp? I find it very odd from the report about the stunningly little Starr had to say about Tripp. And what he does say is very nasty, that she may have tampered with the tapes; that she may have duplicated the tapes; that she may have lied about it. (Footnote 126) I think this means (1) he's disturbed about her story and (2) he's going to hang her out to dry. Specifically, I think we can conclude the following things: The Report reports that Tripp says that she discovered in Fall '96 that Lewinsky was having an affair with the President. The Kathleen Willey story broke in Aug. '97--the precipitating incident that Tripp has previously said caused her to start taping. I think that the fact that Starr has not discussed the tapes that he has found tapes from Tripp that occurred PRIOR to the Newsweek story. In other words, Tripp was taping Lewinsky at a time that she had no reason to protect herself. SHE WAS IN IT FOR THE MONEY. The Report says that Jones' lawyers somehow learned that Lewinsky had received a hatpin from the President. Lewinsky immediately suspected Tripp as being the source. I think it is fair to conclude that Tripp dropped a dime on Lewinsky long before either was subpoenaed by the Jones lawyers. TRIPP WAS THE REASON THAT TRIPP WAS SUBPOENAED. Yeah, I know this is all irrelevant, but it just burns me up that the evil that is Linda Tripp is going to be the reason we go thru the next year months of public debate and contentiousness over impeaching the President.
