All I can say is WOW...this walkman looks too cool...$200 for a piece of technology that kicks minidisc, tape and CD's ass all over the place...

One battery, 32MB flashable RAM = a disc that you can write on and erase indefinetly...stores 8 CD quality songs at once (at least) and no moving parts so no skipping at all...plus its light and tiny with all the features of an advanced discman/minidisc...

As far as legal aspects go, there may be lawsuits but they'll be lost cause it goes like this...the mp3 format isn't illegal, therefore mp3 players aren't illegal...it's just that alot of people are putting copied music into .mp3 format for trading/pirating...Are VHS players illegal? I can copy movies and that's illegal but VHS player manufacturers don't get lawsuits...and that's why any lawsuit will get thrown out of court...

"According to Searchterms.com, who publish the most common search queries on a monthly basis, MP3 was the second most frequently entered term."

That means that people on the net while they'll admit it or not know about and download mp3's (most prolly illegally)...and they'll be all over buying something like this...so unless a law coming out says the mp3 format is illegal then there is no way to stop this...the move towards faster internet access (ie. ADSL and cable modem) makes MP3's even more accessible (on my cable modem I can download a full CD in about 20-30 mins...faster then going to my local CD store)...even on a shitty 56K modem you can get a song in about 15-20 minutes...not bad at all...

And the thing is that this industry is growing and growing and growing...I can even see a move away from traditional CD music distribution to a digital format of publishing over the net (maybe encrypted mp3s, I dunno)...

Diamond is making a good move with this...They're the first big company to take this on and while it may be perceived as risky by some I think it'll make them ALOT of money...I put my pre-order in for one, and as soon as I get a bit more fluid I'm doubling my dimd position...
