It turns out that the story about Debeers buying diamonds from Russia was a Dow Jones feature story, not a DB news release. DB bought $300 million US out of a possible $1 billion or larger stockpile. This is important because it means that Russia is not dumping diamonds on the open market. I expect a short article in Tuesday's Wall Street Journal.
