Henry,

there's a multitude of chip scale packaging technologies competing out there. This link has an overview:

supersite.net

KLIC has a 51% stake in Flip Chip Technologies, which seems to be their strategic investment in this area. The other partner in this is Delco.

Here's what the 10K and 10Q at sec.yahoo.com have to say about FCT:

"FCT was formed to provide wafer bumping services on a contract basis and to license related technologies."

"In the fiscal 1998 third quarter, the Company recognized a $2.3 million loss as its 51% equity interest in its joint venture investment in Flip Chip Technologies, LLC ("FCT") compared to the $2.0 million loss during the same period last year."

Someone willing to add more information to this ?

Klaus
