Should he resign? Yes Why?: 1. Perjury in a civil case and a criminal proceeding. (Maybe he will be disbarred in Arkansas, if nothing else? BTW, Federal judges have been impeached for perjury, I do believe) 2. Lying to the American people. (Okay, maybe ineptly lying, or bald-face lying may be a better description, since LBJ, e.g. lied about the Gulf Of Tonkin--but he was smart enough not to get caught) 3. Lack of judgment. He has proven over and over again that his judgment is awful. E.g. Gays in the Military is his first initiative as President; Health Care Reform legislation; Hanging Lani Guinier out to dry; Making no friends among the democrats in Congress; Messing with Monica when Starr has millions to try to nail him; Messing with Monica, period; Relying on Dick Morris's poll in deciding not to fess up in January; Lying in January to the public and then to his cabinet and staff; lying after his Grand Jury appearance and attacking Starr; the list goes on and on. 4. He always puts himself first and the nation second. He has disgraced the office of the Presidency but would never in a million years think of resigning for the good of the nation. What does that tell us? In Japan, a leader caught lying like he did would commit sempuku. Although someone like Bob Kerry would probably never have gotten himself into a situation like Clinton, if he had, I think he'd have the unselfishness to resign. Clinton is selfish with a capital "S." Look how he has screwed up the Democratic party almost singlehandedly. They lost seats in the '94 election thanks to him, and now he'll screw them in November if he doesn't resign. Remember what he did to the Congressional Demos when he had them support the tax increase thing and then abandoned it? Many lost their seats? The guy has loyalty only to himself. 5. He has a pathological personality disorder that requires him to engage in risk taking and getting into jams so he can get himself out against all odds (e.g. Jennifer Flowers, the draft dodging allegations). Maranas, his biographer, was asked if anything about the Starr Report surprised him, and he answered simply, "No." I don't personally care about his psychological problems- unless and until it affects the nation, which it has now done. 6. Al Gore will be President, not Newt Gingrich. Too bad this isn't a parliamentary system of govt. Clinton would be out and Gore or some other Demo would be in. No big deal. Maybe we should view impeachment as not that big a deal? 7. Oh, yeah. Obstruction of justice and suborning perjury. Not as strong as I'd like to see, but add it to the others and it spells R-E-S-I-G-N. Bottom Line is the guy is a disgrace, a liar, a felon, interested only in himself, and should let Al Gore take over. Same policies, better messenger and leader. Just my two cents.
