Barnes & Noble, Inc., the nation's largest bookseller, is sponsoring the 92nd Street Y's "Books and Breakfast" lecture series. Anna Quindlen, bestselling novelist and Pulitzer Prize winning former columnist at The New York Times, will kick off the series on Friday, September 18, 1998 at 7:30 a.m. The other scheduled speakers include President Jimmy Carter with Anna Quindlen as moderator; the noted editor and publisher, Harold Evans, with Leonard Lopate as moderator; and bestselling novelist and screenwriter, Susan Isaacs.
The lecture series, nine breakfast events running from September 1998 to June 1999, all begin at 7:30 and end at 8:30 a.m. The price of admission, which includes breakfast, is $30 per ticket for each event and $100 for four. The proceeds will be used to help renovate the library at the 92nd Street Y.

The speakers, dates, and topics of discussion for the 7:30 a.m. "Books and Breakfast" series are as follows:
-- Anna Quindlen, Friday, September 18. Ms. Quindlen will discuss
her recent book How Reading Changed My Life, the importance of
literacy in our lives, and the changes in reading habits that
have occurred over the past 100 years.
-- President Jimmy Carter, Tuesday, October 27. President Carter
will talk with Anna Quindlen about his book, The Virtues of
Aging, and reflect on the process of growing older in America.
-- Harold Evans, Friday, November 6. Mr. Evans -- the editorial
director of and vice chairman of the Daily News, U.S. News &
World Report, The Atlantic Monthly and Fast Company -- discusses
his new book, The American Century, with Leonard Lopate, host of
New York & Company on WNYC. Harold Evans was president and
publisher of Random House Trade Group, the former editor of The
Sunday Times of London, director of Goldcrest Films, editor in
chief of Atlantic Monthly Press, and founding editor in chief of
Conde Nast Traveler.
-- Susan Isaacs, Friday, January 22, 1999. All six of Susan Isaacs
novels have made the New York Times bestseller list. The popular
novelist and screenwriter will speak on feminism in the arts and
the various meanings this term has for women. Ms. Isaacs latest
book is Rave Dames and Wimpettes: What Women Are Really Doing on
Screen and Page.
