Sun Tzu: Holiday season

What holiday season are they talking about? I hope they are not talking about Christmas. That would be far too long.

When do you think 3Dfx sells a chipset so it can be purchased in the weeks preceding Christmas? There's a good lead time, especially in the PC OEM business (i.e. it'll be starting in October).

To say that the Sega settlement means a profitable quarter is pure bull.

I don't think they really said that. They said very clearly that they'd be running at a loss of "several million dollars." However, the Sega lawsuit settlement has important cash-flow consequences. They can keep spending on marketing and R&D without too much worry. It's real money after all, just not sustainable earnings.

And what does "design wins with top Tier 1 and Tier 2 PC OEMs" mean? One of each? What kind of volumes? :((

It wasn't so long ago people were speculating that there weren't any OEMs. Now you're unhappy because you don't know the details? Understandable in context of course, but it's still confirmation that they exist.

Anyone know what's considered Tier 1? Dell, Compaq, Gateway? Is HP Tier 2 or 1?
