Pat, I understand your reluctance to jump in. The way the stock has been dropping, who wouldn't be? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is a Catch-22. Watching the ticker, it seems to me that the rapid price decline is more due to an absence of buyers than a preponderance of sellers. No one wants to step up to the plate, so the few people who want to get out force the price down, which drives up volume and more people want out. It's a nasty circle. And this isn't just true of Cymer. It is true of anything other than the big stocks.

However, once the momentum swings, it will move unbelievably fast. It seems to me the best thing to do is start nibbling, then keep nibbling if it falls further.

Jay

Pat: I had looked at CYMI when they were around 12+. At that time, based on last qtrly earnings, my notes are: 95m in cash + short term investments, 74m in long term investments (not sure what is involved here). I am not sure the charges for the friday cut backs but for next qtr. let us say they come through with earnings as predicted. The question is whether what will be the expectations for subsequent qtrs. and management's forecast. If the sale does not collapse, then they could carry on with small losses here and there without tapping into the cash position. With some buy backs, specially at these prices, numbers might even look good once the market recovers.

Nick asked some interesting questions. I have some SFAM. Never thought I'd see prices these low but here we are. Incidentally, had plans to buy CYMI under 10 but have not acted as of to-day.
