IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1998--Epoch Internet, one of the nation's largest privately held Internet solutions providers, is leading the establishment of business-class digital subscriber line (DSL) Internet service in multiple regions across the country, and is now offering DSL access in San Diego county.

Thousands of businesses and residences in San Diego will have access to Epoch's DSL service -- TSpeed(TM). The new coverage area will serve cities including San Diego, La Jolla, Escondido, Vista, El Cajon, Oceanside, Rancho Bernardo, and Carlsbad. Additional cities such as La Mesa, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Penasquitos, Poway, Pacific Beach, Coronado, Santee, and Encinitas will be able to obtain TSpeed access throughout the remainder of 1998 and next year.

Epoch initially made its TSpeed service available to Northern California cities in April 1998, and implemented additional DSL coverage in the Los Angeles, Orange County, Boston, and New York markets shortly thereafter.

Epoch's TSpeed delivers dedicated Internet access at scalable speeds from 128 Kbps to 1.0 Mbps -- nearly 50 times faster than typical dial-up connections using modems and 10 times faster than ISDN service. End users can select from varying speeds according to individual company needs. TSpeed costs as little as $35 per month for Internet access, plus CLEC fees which combined, typically cost a fraction of the price of T-1 access.

TSpeed customers receive a feature-packed set of Internet capabilities: an e-mail address for each workstation, software including Internet Explorer(TM) 4.0 and Outlook Express(TM), 24x7 customer support, use of all necessary equipment, and complete installation with inside wiring. Domain name registration (companyname.com) and Web site set-up services are available.

simple narrow view for high-tech; in the high-tech arena without good people (engineers) shareholders are history

Yes, I agree 100%. But what does this have to do with how much CSCO (or someone else) might pay for CIEN? In order to take care of and retain employees in down times, companies simply re-price options. Companies that truly believe their stock is undervalued, accompany the re-pricing of options with a share buyback. This keeps both shareholders and employees happy.
