WASHINGTON - House Republicans want speedy release of President Clinton's videotaped grand jury testimony, officials said Monday as the two top Democrats in Congress urged him to abandon a technical defense against Kenneth Starr's claim he lied under oath in denying a sexual affair. Sen. Tom Daschle of South Dakota and Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri both called for more candor from Clinton. Gephardt said Americans want "straight talk and the truth," while Daschle expressed impatience with "hairsplitting over legal technicalities." Several GOP sources said there had been discussions of releasing Clinton's taped testimony with other volumes of Starr's report later this week, a move minority Democrats are expected to oppose.
