Claude......here is the problem with the flags to which you make reference:
the flags illustrated each have 5 waves, but there is no guidance as to the internal structure of each of those waves,.... so what happens is that as a flag appears we assume that the "break" will be in the direction of the trend just previous to the flag and often it DOES NOT....then we are confused

EWT tries to assign particular internal wave structure and if this subwave structure is appropriate for a flag,pennant or triangle then the odds increase substantially in a break to the direction of the previous trend..........if the subwave structure is inappropriate for a flag etc. the something else is happening and the odds of it being a flag are substantially reduced...............

unfortunately E-Waves are often poorly defined, muddled or mutated......BUT on those occasions when the internal subwaves are as clearly apparent as possible, then the odds have switched substantially in your favor.......and that is what I try to play
