Intel Investors - Tyan targets 450 MHz Pentium II Motherboards - for the sub $1000 PC market ! Street prices are expected to be only $150. Paul {=============================}newsalert.com Tyan Computer Announces 450MHz Pentium II, Micro ATX Motherboard for Building Sub-$1,000 PCs Business Wire - September 14, 1998 10:33 Jump to first matched term FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1998--TYAN Computer today announced a Pentium II Micro ATX motherboard for system integrators and OEMs that supports up to 450MHz Pentium II processors as well as the latest Celeron CPUs. The TYAN Tigercub 100 (S1894SLA) is a single processor Micro ATX motherboard designed for the sub-$1,000 PC market. The board's footprint is actually smaller than the MicroATX standard, but it will easily mount inside a MicroATX or standard ATX chassis. List price is $189, with street prices expected to be $150. "The Tigercub 100 allows integrators to use a lower-cost case, power supply, and motherboard, making it an ideal platform for the 'Basic PC,'" said Don Clegg, Tyan's VP of OEM Sales and Marketing. The Tigercub 100 design is based on the Intel 440BX chipset which supports the whole range of Slot 1 processors -- including the new 450MHz Pentium II and the new Celeron 333MHz CPUs. With 66MHz to 100MHz bus support the Tigercub 100 supports a wide range of configurations and provides flexibility in the Micro ATX form factor. Tigercub 100 offers greater expandability than existing Micro ATX boards The new Tyan Tigercub 100 motherboard features ample expansion capacity with three PCI bus master slots, one shared ISA slot and one AGP port. System assemblers can populate the AGP port with a high performance 2x AGP graphics accelerator for extremely responsive 3D graphics, or an entry level AGP adapter for more cost-effective systems. An Ensoniq 32-bit PCI sound controller is built in on the motherboard to make system integration faster and easier and to save one expansion slot for other add on devices. The board includes three 168-pin DIMM sockets to support up to 768MB of PC/66 or PC/100 SDRAM. Most existing Micro ATX boards only offer two DIMM sockets, two PCI slots and ISA audio, which leaves users wanting more expandability. Drive support includes Ultra DMA/33 to give users access to the fastest hard drives available while maintaining compatibility with older EIDE/IDE drives. The board also features dual channel PCI Bus Mastering ports, 2 serial ports, 1 parallel port, 1 floppy disk connector, and Twin Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports for up to 126 compatible peripheral devices. The motherboard features double row ATX connectors with 2 serial, 1 parallel, 1 PS/2 mouse, 1 PS/2 keyboard and 2 USB ports to make it easy to attach peripherals. Standard power and system management features include Wake-on LAN support, power recovery after interrupt, Win95 Soft Power Down, and memory autodetect. Award Flash BIOS is also standard. The Tigercub 100 offers optimum performance and flexibility with its broad Slot 1 CPU support, 100MHz bus technology, added expansion capacity, and on-board PCI sound in addition to standard I/O ports.
