Tuesday September 15, 12:14 am Eastern Time Nortel says wins $40 mln Taiwan GSM contract HONG KONG, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Northern Telecom Ltd (Toronto:NTL.TO - news) said on Tuesday it had been awarded a US$40 million contract for a third expansion of Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom GSM 900 digital cellular network. Nortel was awarded the initial contract in 1994. Under that contract, Nortel provided Chunghwa Telecom with a complete turnkey digital cellular telephone system including radios, switches and other hardware as well as engineering, commissioning and maintenance support, it said. The third expansion would include the installation of additional Nortel BTS radio equipment to the GSM network, it said. The expansion would increase Chunghwa Telecom's GSM existing network capacity by 400,000 subscribers. This would bring the overall network capacity to 1.5 million subscribers. Regards Neil
