You were referring to the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of
the silver ION) which is very different from Ag METAL! I am surprised that silver nitrate solution (about 1%?)is still used to wipe the eyes of newborn infants. I thought they now have something better than that (silver nitrate solutions tend to blacken organic matter). I have heard that an old-fashioned way of treating a boil is to lance it, remove the pus and use silver nitrate (a good source of the silver ion) as a disinfectant. As a disinfectant, the gold(III) ion is superior but, of course, no one would use it because it is too costly!!! and unstable(reactive).

By the way, gold dust and silver dust are used, among the wealthy in India, as aphrodisiacs. Is it any wonder why these precious metals are so popular in India??? and the population there is so high (about a BILLION). <gggggg> Right now, in their traditional wedding month (September), the East Indians (not N. American 'Injuns') are buying more gold than usual for jewellery and for you know what.
