From the SEG thread:
exchange2000.com

<<Stead [Seagate's senior vice president of international sales operations] said he expects more mergers in the disk drive industry in the next year or two, leaving Seagate, International Business Machines Corp. and Fujitsu Ltd. as the top players.

At present, Quantum Corp. and Western Digital Corp. are Seagate's closest competitors in terms of worldwide market share.>>

Any comments on this prognosis?

Larry,

<<president of SEG was saying the oversupply problems were still being worked out.>>

I would agree and I still say we need to see some corrections and consolidation for this segment to see profitability of the kind we want to invest in. I want to see wholesale abandonment in the way we are seeing in the d-ram biz ala Siemens and Hitachi.

Instead, we are seeing Fujitsu expand, etc etc.

I want the tune to change before I get up to dance again. Tired of the same old song. :)

Best,
Stitch
