Technology for IP/ATM over WDM and Ciena WDM - Wave Division Multiplexing This post is a non-technical one for all that interested in this SI Firstly, the following can be used as proven facts 1. Bandwidth needs are increasing exponentially 2. IP which is the Internet Protocol is the common protocol for network layer 3. ATM will still be used in wide area especially where quality is critical 4. Ethernet on desktop and LANs Based on these - IP and ATM directly over WDM will be the future; that is what seems to be Ciena and CSCO are working towards - Linking Ethernet 10M/100M directly over wide-area using this technology will be the next wave of products for Corporate network
