CHKPF or OMKT -- trading network infrastructure for software

Selling their network is kind of like AT&T selling its point to point intercity backbone.

What would generate more or more easily sustainable revenues? Both CHKPF and OMKT have significant competition, e.g. NEON. They are niche companies. While CHKPF is certainly priced attractively today it would seem more like IBM is moving their company a different direction with a network sale.

Trading network infrastructure for software products. It doesn't seem to sound right when I say it. Does it make sense to you? They had a goal at the start of this year to add 20,000 consultants. How close are they, anyone know?

Maybe they plan to acquire a large services organization. Or maybe this is the start of a plan to re-enter the applications business that they have abandoned over the past 15 years. If they were considering a move like this (SAP, PSFT) they'd certainly need to raise capital.

They tend to think 10-15 years out. What are they likely to need more in 10 years than network infrastructure?
