CC,

Sanctity of human life, apparently you either don't understand or agree with this concept?

<<...In all our own history...not Germany's....doctors did not take extraordinary measures when they percieved the outcome....its was their appointed role and duty until the RR, lawyers, and medicare all wanted a say. I say you are paying for it with the lack of gentleness and kindness in society were kids can't even play outdooors anymore.
Then a futurist spoke to a Unitarian group...and I was invited. He had worked a lot with Carl Sagan. He also told us of the dangers of not meeting moral dilemas head-on because of all the advances already available in the medical-scientific community. RR's stick their heads in the sand...and we all suffer their consequences.>>

My read is that you have taken the wrong lessons from your experiences. Doctors not "taking extraordinary measures..." because "it was their appointed duty..." tells me you are not aware of the Hippocratic Oath which all physicians promise to adhere to in their profession, and their appointed duty under the oath is to preserve life and promote physical health. Your references to 'enlightened' types who caution us to face moral dilemmas head on gives additional weight to bp's very good point that technological advance does not guarantee right reason. After all, Nazi Germany was the most advanced technological society of its era.
