AMD discontinued 29xxx development when they bought NexGEN and ditched their internal K5 & original K6 developments. That was late 1995.

The K5 and original K6 used core technologies from the 29000 - and that program almost sunk AMD.

Of course, their new K6 and K6-2 hasn't exactly earned them lunch money.
