Agree. More likely first appearance of XRL delivery to a
client for testing would be in 2000. Later before we see
it available as a fully commercial tool.

The timing of JMAR's XRL introduction, should it ever be ready for and accepted by the market, may be good. According to this recent Semiconductor Business News article, Capital-equipment spending may not pick up fully again until the end of 1999.

Capital-equipment spending could rebound next year, says analyst

"[Last year] was a year of technology investment, but 1998 is a year of econeconomic correction," Fuhs said. "1999 will basically be a sit-and-wait-for-demand mode. We expect accelerated growth to resume in the fourth quarter of 1999."

Michael - I agree that it's better to be conservative on JMAR's XRL projections than get everyone's hopes too high. That said, with all the lawsuits against CYMI, plus the slow-down in the industry, it could be some time before that stock comes out from under a cloud. These lawsuits can take years - I know -- I've been involved in some - and the stocks usually stay depressed till it's over. The market doesn't like uncertainty. In the meantime, XRL could be much further along toward commercialism.

Mike, I recently spoke with Dr. Martinez (about a week ago), and I can tell you that his idea of what is happening with XRL and yours are 180 degrees apart. The first demonstration units (which by the way are saleable) will be ready sometime in the first half of 1999, third quarter at the latest. IBM is already using X-ray lithography to make chips, so I think your 5 year time zone is wrong. 1999 will have first sales (modest at first) and ramping up till XRL kicks in big around 2001 (3 years). But JMAR definitely anticipates creating the demo units next year.

Now I agree completely that if we took XRL out of the equation that JMAR would still have a huge home run hit with Brightlight. XRL will use Brightlight to power the sources for the stepper. But Brightlight has a lot of potential and novel uses way beyond XRL. I also would have to ask people as you have to be patient with XRL as its time frame could come sooner or later depending on JMAR's progress.

Meanwhile, the low and medium power Brightlight modules currently available will create an array of new products and uses for sale now. While the high power Brightlight modules now under development under the DARPA contract will continue to expand the potential uses in the future.

P.S. These are the kind of questions that should be brought up at the conference call!
