That 30% 'growth' was for totally unrealistic business conditions - everybody overbuilt and wanting to take market shares from the next guy. Well they found out exactly where that leads to.

Too bad those 30% won't come around again - easy to make money just riding the cycles.

Addi:

That mid 1990's 30% was primarily a DRAM driven thing or one could argue the byproduct of a PC related lovefest <g>

Nevertheless for that group there is some hope that one day there
will be very big revenue gains mainly because at some point the
semis have to go to 300mm <let's say around 2001 - 2002>. This
should be enough of a change to bring back if not 30% then at
least a 20% average for the years 2000-2003 or so...

then again we could all get converted into a puff of
Hydrogen and Carbon by that time frame <g>

the key point is that the longer it takes to materialize the stronger
the "sudden jump" will be... it's the herd effect - one semi
company will upgrade and then they all will (so that they won't be
left behind) - just so that they can all participate in another
down cycle 2 years later <g>
