Patrick,

The digital camera example is quite insightful. Look at processing times on some of the higher resolution models. The on-board processors are very slow, almost painfully slow.

I view the Casio and Minolta announcements as very significant. The question remains as to whether other consumer applications for LSI chips will be enough to contribute meaningfully to revenues. What are the other needs for specialized chips that would create a niche for LSI?

Patrick:

I can't agree more - that would be my cherished hope <g>

Anyone else notice the rush of LSI design wins/announcements these days:

Aug 31 Minolta Dimage Camera
Sept 8 Hitachi STB
Sept 9 Cabletron SmartSwitch
Sept 10 DTS for DVD (product announcement)
Sept 14 Serrano Enclosure Mgt (?)

not bad and kinda rare to see so many from Mr. LSI aka the quiet
company...

also I don't see many smaller design companies getting a lot of the big name customers and that is LSI's chosen path to fame, glory and a higher stock price for us <ggg>
