You may be right. But he is their ultimate cleansing card for now. Two more years of enduring Bill battling increasingly damning, costly and defocusing allegations seems unreasonable. Leaders of the Democratic party in the Congress are already trying to deploy tactics of cutting losses and finding some sort of solid moral ground to occupy but they have a lot of emotively charged loyalty inertia to overcome, much as we see around these threads here.

One of the big differences between Clinton and Gore is that outside of Nuns and Buddists, Gore is not a money raiser. Clinton sucks in money like a vacuum cleaner and the dems need money.
