If I were to venture a guess on who will be the Dems choice for president on the next go around, I'd say it would be Leon Panetta.

Panetta left the administration at the end of Clinton's first term...I believe to distance him, and to get out of a situation he didn't care for. He talked about running for Governor of California, but decided not to. IMO he has been waiting to run for president.

Panetta is a switch over republican and is well respected by many from both parties. I don't think the Republicans can walk away with an election against Panetta. Panetta would be able to deliver the electoral votes of California.

I'd be interested in hearing the opposition to him.
