Yeah, it normally isn't too much of a horror story, unless you're right before close, and get stuck with some shares left over. At least in my experience, although it is a pain in the butt to see all those silly fills, the total usually gets taken up pretty quickly. I said USUALLY, though. There are exceptions.

The best advice I can give you, just from my experience, and reading others' stories, is to try not to wait until the close to close out positions, and stick with actively traded issues.
