My feeling about the election effect is this.

Demos probably will be hurt in November, but less than now thought. A backlash will be beginning, but there will also be the turnout effects, which will overwhelm backlash.

I think there will be some discouragement among democrats, but not too much. But I think the main effect will be huge turnouts among the outraged, helping Republicans.

I think the backlash will start getting really big early next year. Outrage that the Republicans are still pushing this. Demos will have their fingers in the wind big time, and will get the message.

I think Clinton will survive, although an actual Senate trial wouldn't surprise me. Before and during that trial the public will become furious at Republicans for dragging this out over so small, really, a matter.

I think Clinton will get lots of sympathy and do better after acquittal as a lame duck than is thought.

I think Republicans will then be punished, huge, in the 2000 elections.
