"REGARDS the WORK PLACE PREDATOR" To all the soccer moms and apologists for Sick Willie and especially to those who roam the halls and offices looking for sexual harassment I give you the following from the Sep 15 Washington Times. Susan McGuire Smith is the former chief counsel and associate director at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. She spent 26-plus years in federal service before becoming vice president and general counsel for a private-sector company. She is also the author of "Practical Ethics for the Federal Employee." This week, in a publication called "EEO Update," a newsletter for federal employees, the counsel -- who for years gave legal advice to feds on how to walk the straight and narrow -- does everything short of prosecuting the president of the United States. "As distasteful as the image is, I see a man who is a workplace predator," the counsel writes, "in a position of power, who can use that power to pull innocents into his web and thus personally benefit from his official position ... "Workplaces everywhere --within and outside the federal government -- have these kinds of predators," she adds. "They use their positions of power and prestige to get what they want in the sexual department." The counsel continues: "I think back now with chagrin on my lectures to co-workers on the need to refrain from misusing their official positions, to avoid actions that could be seen as sexual harassment, to treat co-workers of the opposite sex professionally and with some respect ... "I'm thankful I don't have to try to deliver those kind of speeches any more. It would be very difficult for me to look people in the eye and tell them how to behave, when in fact the top fed doesn't follow the advice. If he doesn't, why should anyone else?"
