The second quarter ended on 2 Aug 98. We are now about half-way through the 3rd quarter, with good forecasts provided by DELL leadership last week. A few points I'd like to make regarding the positive outlook for this quarter:

1. CHINA. DELL began shipping products from it's new plant in China last quarter. Although the Chinese may not buy as many units as the Europeans, the major customers are expected to be multi-national corporations. I believe the Chinese will eventually appreciate and respect the efficiency of the DELL model like the rest of the world.

2. POWEREDGE 6300 SERVERS. These machines began shipping on 31 July. They are now in full production and represent the cutting edge of 6x86 architecture. I believe they will be even more successful than the 2300 servers and should add to earnings this quarter. PC periodicals have very favorable reviews of the 6300.

3. POWERVAULT FIBRE CHANNEL STORAGE. This product began shipping in bulk this month. The latest issue of PC magazine has a favorable write-up. These devices can hold 2 TB of information, and one 6300 server can access 3 of these storage devices for a total of 6 TB of information.

These new venture are among the chief reasons I predict a profitable 3rd quarter at the same, or better, growth rate that DELL has achieved in the past. There other positive ventures, but these I think will add the most to the bottom. line. Rebuttals welcome.
