Ibexx - Thanks for the homenetworking article.

In five years, Intel may look like a different company than it is today.

I sure hope it is five times as big !

PLEASANT HILL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept.
15, 1998--Tut Systems, Inc., a developer of high-speed
data connectivity solutions for copper wire, today
announced an agreement to license its
HomeRuntechnology to Intel Corporation.

HomeRun helps allow consumers to cost effectively
create home networks of computers and other devices
over existing copper phone lines, without interruption to
voice services. Intel is the world's largest chip maker,
and a leading manufacturer of computer, networking and
communications products. The first product from Intel
to incorporate HomeRun technology will be the Intel
21145 Phoneline/Ethernet LAN controller.

Tut and Intel - along with 3Com, AMD, AT&T, Compaq,
Epigram, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Lucent and Rockwell -
are founding members of the Home Phoneline
Networking Alliance (HomePNA), which aims to deliver
easy-to-use, affordable, high-speed consumer
networking solutions over existing telephone wires.
Tut's HomeRun technology was recently selected as the
first specification for home networking by the
HomePNA. The HomeRun implementation is expected to
complement and coexist with the emerging U-ADSL
communications technology being championed by Intel,
Compaq and Microsoft.

"HomeRun is a compelling technology for home
networking," said Dan Sweeney, business unit manager
of Intel's Home Networking Operation. "Because of its
low complexity architecture, HomeRun technology helps
us to provide flexible solutions in silicon for both home
and office networking."

According to Sal D'Auria, President and CEO of Tut
Systems, "From the beginning, our goal was to make it
simple and cost-effective for silicon providers to
incorporate HomeRun technology into their
communications products. We're very pleased with
Intel's decision to license HomeRun and look forward to
working together, both directly and through the
HomePNA, to make it affordable and easy for
consumers to enjoy the benefits of home networking."

The licensing agreement will allow Intel to incorporate
HomeRun technology into future products, such as the
just-announced Intel 21145 Phoneline/Ethernet LAN
controller. Ideally suited for LAN-on-motherboard and
adapter card implementations, the Intel 21145 will
combine both HomeRun-enabled home networking and
Ethernet on a single chip set, and will be designed to
give platform designers and systems integrators the
ability to create a single system that's ready for both
home and office networking. The Intel 21145 will be
designed to comply with the first home phoneline
networking specification set forth by the Home PNA,
which is expected to be released this quarter.

Intel, a minority investor in Tut, joins AT&T Ventures,
Compaq, Itochu International and Microsoft as a Tut
investor.

About HomeRun Technology

HomeRun creates a 1 Mbit/s Ethernet LAN over the
existing random structure phonelines already in the
home. No new wires or connections are required, and
HomeRun operates concurrently with existing telephone
(or "POTS") service.

The technology provides all the bandwidth necessary
for today's home networking applications - shared
Internet access, shared peripherals and multi-player
gaming. HomeRun is also expected to complement the
new Universal ADSL technology, known as U-ADSL,
being championed by Compaq, Intel and Microsoft.

About Tut

Tut Systems designs, develops and markets advanced
communications products which enable high-speed data
access over the copper infrastructure of telephone
companies, as well as the copper telephone wires in
homes, businesses and other buildings. These products
incorporate Tut's proprietary FastCopper technology in
a cost-effective, scalable and easy to deploy solution to
exploit the underutilized bandwidth of copper telephone
wires. The Company's HomeRun technology, an
in-home application of FastCopper, has been adopted as
the first generation standard for home networking over
copper telephone wires by the Home Phoneline Network
Alliance (HomePNA), whose founding members include
3Com Corporation, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.,
AT&T Wireless Services, Inc., Compaq Computer
Corporation, Epigram Inc., International Business
Machines Corporation, Intel Corporation,
Hewlett-Packard Company, Lucent Technologies Inc.,
Rockwell Semiconductor Systems Inc. and Tut Systems.
