Reminds me of one of my bigger teenage guilt trips.

One of my high school teachers (Ava Grodner, upon whom every teenage boy in my high school had a mind-bending crush) introduced me to a very nice girl (Sue by name), we went out on one date, to a musical accompanied by Miss Grodner, and it went very nicely.

I subsequently invited her down to the shore with a bunch of friends. One of the girls brought a girlfriend from out of town (a certain Carolyn), and we were immediately smitten with each other. And rather publicly too, I'm afraid. I flirted with Carolyn shamelessly the entire day, and she with me. And much to my later regret, I heard from one very pissed off Miss G. the next week that Sue was really hurt, had spent that night sobbing her eyes out after we got back from the shore. Miss G. told me that if I was any kind of a man, I would gut it out, call Sue up, and apologize.

That was one of the toughest phone calls I ever made.
