EP, it is option expiration week:

Gateway has a ton of open interest in both puts and calls
distributed from strikes $40-$60. Highest single OI number, is at: (guess where. Hint: Where stock has risen to and will be stuck nearby for remainder of the week).

Trading is relatively thin and price is responsive to the stock
pushers and the option interest. Empirically the theory of maximum pain applies when nothing else substantial exists to move stock price.
By definition the price has to go somewhere, everyday. Otherwise they
wouldn't be earning their keep at NYSE, would they?
