WorldCom, MCI deal gets FCC go-ahead
Washington The Federal Communications Commission approved WorldCom Inc.'s
proposed acquisition of long-distance giant MCI Communications Corp.
MCI said on Monday that the deal, which would create the second-largest
U.S. telecommunications company behind AT&T Corp., would close shortly.
The deal, originally valued at $37 billion, would create a
telecommunications behemoth capable of providing long-distance and local phone
service as well as data and international services. (Bloomberg)
