wjc, here are some things that i think are news for most "investors."

1. fab capacity below 80% with a doubling of mb capacity within a year.
2. there is no pc driver to dramatically increase sales of semis.

3. "Dan said this is the first time the semiconductor industry
has turned down during a period of growth in the U.S.
economy." yes, this time IS different.

4. there is NO visibility and it is a rough ride.

5. "DRAM shrinks will
generate capacity faster than facility attrition." so much for dj's one sided posts focusing on fab closures and disregarding die shrink impact.

6. a bet on mu is a bet on 20% pc growth.

7. the good side, if correct, is that pc sales growth may increase to the needed 20%+ if he is right about y2k. i'm not sold on this paradigm, though. the flip side is that more money goes to solve y2k from here on out and less goes to pcs. not sure what will happen at this juncture.

good luck...
