The greatness of America has little to do with the petty minded religiosity which surfaces from time to time, and a great deal to do with our adherence to our Constitution and founding ideals. As well as our respect for diversity, and allowance of the most effective, regardless of their cultural or religious values, to rise.

Prohibition was born of the same sorts of moral prescriptions.

The civil rights movement was born of adherence to the Constitution and our founding ideals.

And the mediocrity of all these countries speaks for itself.

>What is remarkable here is that we allow such public humiliation for so very, very
little. Sometimes a little international, and historical, perspective is valuable.<

Yes, and this precisely to show us how not to be. If you do not like our approach to
morality, sir, move to France. I am certain they will just love you there. (With a 50%
general tax rate, and the best unemployment record in the west, I'm sure they will
just love you to literally to death).

I think your provincialism and small mindedness speaks for itself.

As for myself, I think other countries and other cultures are certainly worth studying and learning some things from. That's generally how a great culture remains great. By absorbing and extracting some of the best from divers sources.

I love America as well, but would hardly call every other country in the world mediocre.
