According to Hamilton, a crime is political inasmuch as it assaults the state or offends a public trust. (Federalist #65) It is to protect against such political crimes the impeachment clause was written. If Clinton's activities, particularly his flagrant and repeated and ongoing lies do not meet the test, then it is merely because the economy has sufficiently dulled the country's collective intellect such that it has lost its sense of moral outrage. By any reasonable measure, Clinton has defamed the Office of the Presidency, betrayed public trust and therefore must be impeached.
