Award-Winning German Telecoms Reseller, D Plus, Chooses Oracle for ComTrak Concept and Long-Term Partnership Approach

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. ORCL today announced that D Plus Telecommunications GmbH, a leading German telecoms reseller, has become its first European client win for ComTrak, Oracle's complete enterprise solution for communications businesses in competitive markets around the world. D Plus chose Oracle, over competitors including SAP for Oracle's fully integrated suite of established software technology and information solutions, plus its partnership approach designed to enable D Plus to evolve an enterprise-wide architecture which meets both immediate applications priorities and longer-term, business support needs.
D Plus' immediate priority is to establish effective financial and billing applications within a critical six-month period, with the aim of quickly maximizing cash-flow which is vital to success in the recently liberalized and highly competitive European telecommunications market.
"We are looking for systems which provide immediate and sustainable competitive advantage," said Thomas Vetter, Chief Information Officer of D Plus. "Oracle and its partner offered us best-in-class financial and billing applications respectively. ComTrak will also provide us with an IT and an application architecture tailored to D Plus' business processes and organizational needs at an acceptable cost, and which will enable us to integrate the suite of telecommunications-specific applications we will need in the future, such as customer care, marketing, data warehousing, procurement and human resource management."
As with many operators, D Plus is on the verge of, but has not yet achieved, rapid subscriber growth -- the company projects a growth rate of 70 percent to 335,000 subscribers by the end of 1998. Over the longer term D Plus therefore needs a solution which is quick to implement, scalable to accommodate rapid subscriber growth, and offers a rich functionality to satisfy growing customer demand.
"While other IT suppliers could offer a very good 'piecemeal' approach, we couldn't afford to lose precious time in becoming fully operational and lose revenue on the road to incompatible solutions," said Uwe Becker, D Plus' Managing Director. "With ComTrak we are making the right investment, at the right time, on the right things. We believe this will result in: minimizing time to market while maximizing service quality; minimizing cost of ownership while maintaining competitive advantage; and managing rapid growth while maximizing profit per customer."
Uwe Becker continued, "German telecommunications customers have high expectations, and we believe our core competencies in sales and marketing, connecting to competing networks, unified billing and providing the best possible customer care enables us to exceed these expectations. But we also need best-in-class IT systems and architectures to support our business goals, and we found Oracle to be the only supplier capable of taking a holistic approach to meeting D Plus' unique business requirements at an of-the-shelf price."
"We're very pleased that D Plus chose to work with Oracle to set up its enterprise wide solutions," said Polly Sumner, senior vice president, Communications Industry at Oracle Corp. "ComTrak provides the full complement of premium applications, whether to a fast-growing wireless operator or a wireline operator offering new services in an international market; our solution can be implemented with minimal costs over a very short integration period and allow for fast return-on-investment through customer growth."
ComTrak is an integrated portfolio of Operational Support Systems and Business Support Systems for the start-up Communications operator, providing integrated functionality in the crucial business areas of customer care, billing, service provisioning, service assurance, network management, financial management and decision support. Built upon an extensible, scalable architecture and Oracle's industry-leading database server products, ComTrak leverages Oracle's leadership in packaged enterprise applications, partnering, industry expertise and implementation services to accelerate the Comms operator towards market growth with reduced start-up risk while positioning for dynamic business growth.
