I agree that INTC's main objective in the network space is to
help their core business -- making MPUs.

The article in the Economist suggests that Palm PCs
may take over some of the PC tasks of the past. If this is
really true, then INTC will be highly worried about that
I would think.

So, is it possible that INTC wants to create a chip for COMS
which will be used extensively in the future? Maybe they'd
like to steal Motorola's business? (Probably easier said
than done...I would think that Motorola has protected themselves)

IMO, the most likely reason I think that INTC is having discussions
with 3COM is to create something in the small business enterprise
areas.

btw...David, can you refresh my memory? Rockwell is the
only maker of the kflex chip, correct? And my read is that
they are getting rid of their modem division, so 56kflex modems
will no longer exist, correct?
