ddi corp. in japan decided to buy cien's 16-channel dwdm systems. ddi has a customer base of 16 millions subscribers. more good news will come. good products speak for themselves. shorters should find some cover now.

William, based on what the company has publicly stated in the last few days, it seems quite unlikely that the price could rise 20 or 30%, much less 200 or 300%, in the next 12 months.

The problems seem rooted in the fact there is intense price competition that CIEN has no answer for.

And why would a quick sale be advantageous to a short seller? This makes no sense. The quickest way to flush the shorts is to announce Nettles resignation, and that the company is actively being shopped, problems and all.

You are right that CIEN being part of a big company does not guarantee any wins, but it would let them focus on their strength, which is the technology edge they have, without being encumbered with trying to get sales and marketing coverage to a level where the loss of 1 or 2 accounts is not devastating.
