I usually buy about 5-10 minutes or so too late, but by that time the trend reversal is more established. I also sell a bit too soon, but it's better than having lots of losses. In fact by pulling the trigger when a trade goes bad, sometimes I might have erred and stock comes back but lately I've been correct in my retreats (i.e. CCI, LEH, S&P puts)

I have prepared watch lists with stocks whose historical price patterns I'm used to. I probably would never know how to pull the trigger on a new issue or one based wholly on news, momentum. I write down my own resistance break outs whenever I can find them, and with earnings plays I have a definite advantage because in MOST cases a newly established uptrend near an earnings date will usually continue undisturbed at least enough time to get a nice profit, due to bullish anticipation(i.e. COMS yesterday, RXSD today, PAYX yesterday).
