I see Intel seeding money into companies that will hopefully drive demand for new computers. They are surely in a better financial position to do so, but you would think that Quantum could find ways to develop new markets.

Question is do traditional drives and manufacturing techniques, or costs, play into this new market? IBM see is developing a whole new form factor, 1" in the hopes of getting into hand held devices. What price will they pay for developing the market and can others come in and reap the rewards? It would appear that they've done very well in laptops which has remained a great profit center.

Why did all the hard drive makers leave removeable storage to Iomega and Syquest? Surely they could have seen the value of this segment and offered a better product? Some say one must look to new companies for innovation.

Maybe Quantum does not have the for sight to develop a market. DLT seems to have been an accident. I don't know. At least at this meeting, they only discuss how to maintain the status. Perhaps buying ATL will be a winner.

I don't know much about Internet 2. Is this the secondary system that is suppose to support universitys and think tanks with faster service?

Mark
