there is truth to the fact that rumors have helped the price but the underlying reasoning in the rumors is that the company is well situated either as a candidate for takeover OR as a standalone company. It has made very few miscues along the way and there are too many well respected individuals who see strong growth continuing.

We may chide analysts but the fact is major buying decisions (and selling, of course) are made by analysts. If LU passes on ASND of course there will be some affect and the traders will have a field day if they shorted but long haul investors (who review their holdings as appropriate) may see that as a blip and hold without panicking.

There are differences between traders and investors - don't mock people who fall into the latter category as being enamored of the stock when the decision to buy or hold is based on logical and solid fundamental reasons.

And Tim - you may have been written up but you are not a guru - not mine, anyway. Do what you want and live and let live, OK?

To all, no one (no not even Tim!) can *really* predict where this stock is going. It could go up or down or even sideways. As far as a buyout is concerned, there is likely to be a sell off just before the *possible* buyout because people who are unsure can not wait any longer and don't want to risk the possible lack of merger news (see ciena). Whether the drop is due to fact, fiction or just plain rumor is anyone's guess. To think that Tim can predict the stock market is to forget history itself.
