Good point, but I can only hope that if Algore does become President, he'll be even bigger dud than Gerald Ford was in voters' eyes. I'm afraid we aren't likely to get a peanut-farming Georgia Democrat claiming to know nothing about "Washington politics" as our Republican nominee.

That said, I have nothing but the highest respect for President Carter for the things he's done since he left office. A true hero.

I think the Democratic party fears that once Al is in the spotlihgt people may say, "fine. Who else you got?" and they may not have anyone rally good on such short notice.

I think they were scraping the bottom of the barrel and just got darn lucky with Bill.
